At any given time, on any given day, healthcare facilities will have multiple non-staff individuals on-site. In fact, many IntelliCentrics facilities tally hundreds of visits every month. A closer look at the Reptrax Seasonal Flu Snapshot, a real-time metric that tracks and reports the flu vaccination rates of all non-staff, suggests that our facilities’ efforts to enforce seasonal flu vaccinations among non-staff individuals are paying off as they strive to reach their goal of a 90% vaccination rate by 2020.
So far this flu season, participating Reptrax facilities are averaging a 76% vaccination rate for all non-staff crossing their threshold since Oct. 1, 2012, compared to the CDC’s last published statistic of a national average of 62.9%. In addition, of those participating facilities, 25% are ahead of the game and have already reached a rate of 90% or higher.

Regardless of whether they are a contracted technician in radiology or a volunteer simply delivering flowers to a nursing station, non-staff individuals represent a potential risk for transmission of the influenza virus and are included in the initiatives of The Joint Commission [TJC], Center for Disease Control [CDC] and theDepartment of Health and Human Services [HHS] to increase flu vaccination rates among healthcare workers[HCW]. Even though there is progress being made in the overall vaccination rate of these individuals in our facilities, we still have further to go in order to meet the benchmark.
With the Reptrax Seasonal Flu Snapshot, our facilities are able to easily track the seasonal flu vaccination rate of their non-staff and view their progress to ensure they will meet their goals. Knowing who has protected themselves from the flu and who hasn’t is more than just knowing the risk, it also shows who may need further education regarding the facility’s policies as well as the benefits of getting a flu vaccine.
Approximately 600 of our facilities reached a 90% or higher vaccination rate of non-staff individuals.
