In a recent survey, 51% of compliance professionals in the healthcare provider industry ranked “Ensuring compliance of vendors/business associates” as a high priority for compliance programs in 2013. This marks a significant increase (up almost +300%) from the same survey in 2010, where only 13% considered vendor compliance a high priority.
When asked the reason for their choices, 82% of the 1,056 compliance professionals responded with “Increasing focus and audits from CMS” due to healthcare reform initiatives. In addition, the overwhelming majority, 73%, of survey participants indicated that the Chief Compliance and/or Ethics Officer in their organization are responsible for demonstrating compliance program effectiveness.
